Machine Bias, Made Explorable
In 2016, ProPublica showed that COMPAS, a widely used recidivism prediction tool, produced racially biased risk scores. Black defendants were nearly twice as likely to be falsely labeled high-risk. White defendants were more likely to be falsely labeled low-risk.
This is the dataset. 7,214 defendants scored by COMPAS in Broward County, Florida, 2013–2014. Every score, every outcome, every demographic. Search it. Filter it. See the patterns.
